The Lincoln Head and Neck Warriors
are a group of people at various points
in their journey with Oral, Head and Neck cancer.
We meet monthly to share our experiences
and to learn from each other.
We sometimes learn
from Healthcare providers
and experts in related fields.
We sometimes discuss
what we have each learned
through our cancer journeys.
We have a collective experience
that involves years of learning
and we might be able to provide information
to others with a similar diagnosis.
Today we fight
Tomorrow we fight
The day after .... we fight
And if this disease plans on whipping us,
it better bring lunch,
'cause it's gonna have a long day doing it.

Future Meetings will usually be held
on the Second Tuesday of each Month
Meetings are held at either
the Piedmont Church on 48th and A St
Or
the offices of Balance and Mobility of Lincoln
on 40th and O street

Someplace else ....If there is a cool opportunity
Most meetings will be held from 5pm to 6:30pm.

Lincoln Head and Neck Warriors Minutes: June 11, 2024

Discussed our Oral Cancer screening held in April. We had eighteen screened participants with 4-5 referred for follow ups with their dental or medical provider. UNMC Dental students that performed the screenings gave Polly favorable feedback about the event and are looking forward to continuing to participate in the future. We talked about beginning marketing for the event earlier next year to get the word out to get more participants for the screening. It was suggested that we start at least 90 days before the event when we are out promoting the event and then follow up 30 days prior. We will continue brainstorming for the event going forward to allow for more participation and making sure the event runs smoothly. If you have any suggestions let Polly know. One suggestion was also made to offer an option for online registration through our website on which we can work.
We also discussed general promotion of our group and meeting attendance. It was discussed to have a one-page handout/pamphlet with bullet points of our mission and meeting highlights. As of right now we are posting our meeting minutes on our website which is still "young" so we will work on a handout from there.
Polly U. continued her presentation regarding Functional Nutrition. This is an interesting and eye- opening concept, and we are fortunate to have Polly available and willing to share her experience from the class she has attended. Polly has a large amount of information to share, so she will continue to present at future meetings.
Polly also recommended a book written by an author from here in Lincoln, NE. The book is called, "Invited for More" by Kerri Denell. It is a collection of 100 letters the author wrote to numerous people in 100 days. Polly has the author scheduled to come and share with our group at our September meeting (9/9/24).
As always those in attendance shared any new or helpful experiences with the group which is one of our missions. It is so great to get together with other warriors that can continue to be a meaningful part of all our cancer journeys no matter where we are at in our care.
